Placing undeground concrete: Concrete bucket is being filled by direct chute from concrete ready mix truck. Caterpillar 345B backhoe has backed down slope toward underground utility tunnel into position to lift concrete bucket and rotate 180 degrees into position to place the concrete in the utility tunnel. Access to the utility tunnel construction is behind backhoe, by ladder. At upper left of photo is cylindrical manhole surface access to tunnel. • Laydown concrete bucket delivers fresh concrete through its bottom gate valve to worker powered concrete buggy at building floor edge. Worker operates gate valve lever with right hand. Bucket is supported by crane. The natural tilt of the laydown bucket allows it to extend inside the floor edge, held in place by the wire cable perimeter fall protection, in this instance. Worker will push concrete buggy to concrete placement position and tilt it forward to place its concrete, and then return to this point to load additional concrete. • Caterpillar 621F wheel-tractor scraper is pushed by Cat D6R bull dozer. Dozer blade pushes on rear push block of scraper. Bowl has been lowered so its cutting edge cuts soil, and scraper apron at front of bowl has been lifted. Therefore, the bowl fills with soil as scraper moves with asistance of dozer pushing it forward. The Courtyards private dormitory, North Campus, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. 2007.

  • Caterpillar 621F wheel-tractor scraper transports soil from cut area to fill are. After being filled, bowl is raised to clear the ground, and front apron of bowl is lowered to keep soil in bowl as scraper travels. The Courtyards private dormitory, North Campus, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. 2007.
  • Caterpillar 621F wheel-tractor scraper returns to cut area after dumping previous load at fill area. Cat D6R bull dozer is rough grading earth slope on which scraper became hung up going uphill with last load. The Courtyards private dormitory, North Campus, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. 2007.

  • Manitowoc crawler mounted lattice boom crane with luffing jib lifts hollow core precast concrete floor deck slab off flatbed trailer powered by Peterbilt semi tractor. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.
  • Structural ironworker supported by Genie scissor lift electric arc welds steel seat angle to flanges of wide flange H column structural steel to support corner of hollow core precast concrete deck member. Manitowoc crane supports the precast member, waiting for seat angle to be attached. Two ironworkers wait to guide precast member into place, after seat angle is ready, using rope tag line hanging from corner of member. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.
  • Structural ironworker uses tag line to manuever hollow core precast concrete slab section through steel structure members to place it in its proper position. It is a tight fit, which will require the ironworker on the left to move the section a little to the left using a pry bar. Precast member is supported by Manitowoc crane. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.
  • Structural ironworker uses tag line to manuever hollow core precast concrete slab section through steel structure members, a tight fit, which the ironworker on the right assists by prying the section to the left with a prybar. Precast member is supported by Manitowoc crane. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.
