My Construction Photos > Manitowoc crane lifts precast concrete panel cladding panel into position on west side of midrise residential building. Worker on left pulls panel toward building with tag line and his hand and worker on right reaches out with 2x4 lumber to pull right side tag line so he can reach it. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.

My Construction Photos > Construction safety, building construction: Two workers install plywood sheathing on roof trusses on 2-story residential building. Workers are standing on previously erected sheathing, at a significant slope, without fall protection. They carry the 4'x8' sheets of plywood sheathing as they need them from the Caterpillar hydraulic telescoping boom 4-wheel drive rough terrain forklift. One slip and a worker rolls down roof and falls ~20' off edge or hits open trusses and may fall through them. Fort Myer Beach, Florida 2005
My Construction Photos > Construction safety, building construction: Worker walks ridge line of roof on 2-story residential building, about 30 ft above ground, without any fall protection. He walks down ridge, then valley to right, then down to far right attic opening. One slip and he rolls down roof and falls ~20 ft off edge. Fort Myer Beach, Florida 2005
My Construction Photos > Building/vertical construction: Multi-story reinforced concrete structure and concrete block wall residential building. Considering the long wall toward us to be 6 modules, exterior wall construction of the middle 4 is from vertical open lattice steel towers, each pair supporting a work platform that is now just above tree line. The right, corner module is serviced by a cable hung scaffold that is now at the next to top floor. Workers and materials are transported vertically by the construction elevator at the near corner and another at the far left corner, whose tower can be seen beyond the far left balconies. At far right is a Manitowoc crawler base vertical boom, luffing jib crane that can service any point on the job site. Fort Pierce Beach, Florida, November 2005.
My Construction Photos > Wood frame construction: Two stories of dimension wood framing, shows studs at lower level supporting horizontal prefabricated wood trusses, which support subfloor above to form a floor platform. The framing for walls of that floor are then installed, and another set of trusses is placed on top of the double top plate of those stud walls to provide support for the subfloor of that next story. A variety of other details are also shown. Ann Arbor, Michigan 2004
My Construction Photos > Wood frame construction, crane: Potain HD40A self-erecting tower crane places pre-sheathed wood frame section onto 2nd floor. HD40A is portable, can unfold itself in less than a minute, can carry 8,800 lb maximum or 2200 lb at its largest reach of 115 ft. All residences shown were erected with similar lifting by this crane. Ann Arbor, Michigan 2004.
My Construction Photos > Wood frame, residential construction: Workers push second floor preframed dimension wood exterior wall frame up into position. Wall was framed on horizontal, either on the second floor on which workers are standing or at some other place on the site and then brought into this position by the tower crane. Workers push the 2"x4" diagonal braces to help push wall vertical, and the workers can pull on the braces to prevent the wall from overturning and falling. Once wall is in vertical position, the workers will nail the diagonal braces to the wood subfloor to hold the wall in vertical position and support it against lateral forces such as wind. Note the diagonal 1"x4" boards nailed on edge on both sides of the windows, which give the framed wall sufficient strength to resist lateral loads during construction. Ann Arbor, Michigan 2004.
