My Construction Photos > Washtenaw County Road Commission Ford and Volvo rear dump trucks fitted with snow plows raised and rotated to neutral position. Carpenter Road and Michigan Avenue/US 12, Ann Arbor, Michigan, March 2007.
My Construction Photos > Precast concrete tilt-up construction: Reinforced concrete wall section is pulled up at its top into near vertical position to form section of outside wall of building. As foreman on right signals crane operator to hold position of tilted up concrete slab wall section, workers inside and outside manually position bottom of section to sit on its foundation, forming corner with previously placed adjacent section. Worker on left holds up adjustable shore so it does not drag on ground/slab and impact positioning. Phoenix, Arizona, November 2006.
My Construction Photos > Precast concrete construction, bridge constrruction: Side view of HydraSteer trailer supporting and attached to rear end of precast, prestressed bridge girder as truck and trailer back down to position bridge girder to be lifted into position on bridge piers. Trailer steering is powered by horizontal hydraulic pistons above wheels and fender on either side of trailer. Trailer steering and braking is controlled by the truck driver in the truck tractor, using control cables temporarily on top of the girder from tractor to trailer, shown here in middle of photo, dropping down to just bottom of girder above "Robinson Cartage" and continuing to the motor hanging from the trailer frame just to the right. The girder is tightly attached to trailer at several places by heavy chains fastened and tightened by come-alongs. Come-alongs are a type of lever with hook that can grab, pull, and hang on to any link of the chain, which makes the chain rigging adjustable in length and easily tightened. The photo inset is blowup of the 4 chains and come-alongs at the end of the beam. Dixboro Bridge over Huron River, Ann Arbor, MI, 2005.
My Construction Photos > Precast concrete construction, bridge constrruction: Truck tractor backs down toward Huron River to spot/position 120 ft long precast, pretensioned prestressed bridge girder in position for the two Terex open web boom cranes (left center and mid-distance far right) to lift it iinto its permanent position on bridge piers. The red trailer/dolly at far end of girder with 3 axles attached to with chains and come-alongs and supporting the rear end of the girder is an Elk River HydrasSteer trailer, which has been steered to back the girder to the left and then straight down the hill. Trailer steering and braking is controlled by the truck driver in the truck tractor, using control cables running on top of the girder from tractor to trailer, shown here between two sets of chains, from top to bottom of girder. Foreman/superindent is walking down hill beside girder with radio in his left hand, to give direction to driver as needed. Dixboro Bridge over Huron River, Ann Arbor, MI, 2005.
