My Construction Photos > Champion worker and material construction elevator ready for worker to enter on the 4th floor. Elevator car has gates at each end, one of which slides up and the other slides down, so worker can enter. Here the gates toward building are opened for worker to enter, and the gates away from buildings are closed until car is at bottom and workers leave and enter using the gates at back of car. The two-pulley cathead sits atop elevator tower, with one end of cable attached to car and the other attached to counterweight.
is at bottom, and worker is just opening bottom door to leave car. Elevator counterweight is at top of the mast until car begins its next assent. The two pulley cathead on top of the mast balances the up and down movement of car with the down and up movement of the counterweight. The elevator services floors 3 and up, each of which is fitted with a vertically hinged door that will only open when car is at its floor. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.

In foreground are lattice/truss towers and crane counterweight. In center area are elevator car on left and two pulley cathead somewhat hiddent on right. Along right side are elevator doors to be installed at each floor. Ashley Terrace, Ann Arbor, Michigan April, 2007.

My Construction Photos > Building/vertical construction: 23-story reinforced concrete structure 360 unit loft residential building. Cast-in-place concrete structure is being cast at 1-story per week. The top floor being cast has polyethylene plastic weather protection. Formwork has been removed on all floors shown, to be placed for next floor. The upper three floors are reshored (formwork removed and shores replaced) to distribute the load of the new and recent concrete placements among several floors. Galvanized steel bent sheet metal framing is being erected on the lower floors for exterior walls and interior partitions. Construction elevator is at near corner of building. Project is serviced by two tower cranes. Glass House, Denver, Colorado, December 2005.
My Construction Photos > Construction vertical transportation: Patent personnel and material hoist, providing construction elevator service during construction. Hoist cage travels to right of open web column support and counterweight (near bottom in photo) travels opposite direction on left side of column. Column is supported laterally by a frame attached to building structure at each floor. To left of the hoist is a Klimer mast climbing scaffold work platform. Biomedical Science Research Building, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, 2004.
