Structural steel construction: Structural steel ironworker uses spud wrench (see inset detail). He first uses spud end to align bolt holes of girder connector plate and wide flange beam and then to temporarily support beam in proper alignment while he inserts bolt and twists on nut with his hand. He then tightens bolt with wrench end of spud wrench. Two bolts are installed before crane releases beam, and they provide interim support of beam until frame has been erected and plumbed and permanent bolts are installed.
