Scraper is making a loading pass, with its bowl edge lowered to scrape up earth and paddle buckets rotating to pick up soil against bowl edge and elevate it to fall into the bowl. This is close up view of upper end of the chain and paddle elevating conveyor. We see six paddles, s they are lifted and rotated to drop their soil into the scraper bowl. The forward side of the elevating conveyor moves downward with paddle buckets pointing downward, and the rear side moves upward with the paddles pointing upward, holding excavated soil that they dump in bowl as they turn over at the top.
