Cast-in-place concrete construction, reinforced: In lower half of photo, bent end of rebar is used to pull up bottom rebar in trench during concrete placement to achieve necessary concrete cover under rebar to protect it from soil/moisture/salts and produce bond between concrete and steel. Concrete is being placed through chute from ready-mix concrete truck. Depot Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan, October, 2006.
